How to Use a Unisex Bathroom

I recently stopped by Vassar College’s wonderful library, and had to use a restroom. Every bathroom I found was “gender-neutral”—and they weren’t private one-stall things, but rather were open-floor plan unisex mixers. I went in one and saw that there were stalls and that all the stalls were thankfully empty.
When I was washing my hands, two girls, presumably students, came in, stopped, and one said with disdain, “Oh, there is a guy in here.”
I said, “Now wait a second. That’s labeling. How do you know how I identify?”
She rolled her eyes, said, “Whatever” and left in a huff.
Maybe, just maybe, experiences like this will convince this generation that “men’s” and “women’s” designations make sense with bathrooms, sports, and more.
