Can a Hipster Be a Man?

Style is an individual thing. What is right for one man might not work for another. This has to do with someone’s personality, occupation, and their basic role in life. As with everything, what a man wears shouldn’t take them out of character—a man should be what he seems. That said, the modern-day hipster is hardly dressing in a manly way. The patterned skinny jeans, the t-shirts with characters from children’s TV shows, the fitted hoodies, the courier bags from Freitag, and all that aren’t manly—actually, they are boyish on purpose. This doesn’t mean hipsters are not good people or something; what a man wears doesn’t really tell others whether he is really a gentleman. The hipster clothing, though, wouldn’t fit in manly occupations or sports. Can you see someone hunting in such an outfit? Would a Navy SEAL ever dress that way? How about a construction worker? No, the hipster dress is a declaration that someone is not that sort of guy. Again, this doesn’t mean a hipster can’t be a stand-up man, or even a gentleman, it only means they are purposely not dressing in a manly way.
